Desolate howls from a dark, faint night
The land is in peril as heaven falls,
Echo the darkness, fade with the light.

Shadows staring with a venomous blight
Feeding the anguish, hindering the call,
Desolate howls from a dark, faint night.

Heaven will crumble from a wicked might,
Bodies will rumble as judgment befall
Echo the darkness, fade with the light.

The dead will rise in this perpetual fight,
Conveying misery as darkness enthralls
Desolate howls from a dark, faint night.

The land shall feel the demonic spite
Ensuing the war as the brood stand tall,
Echo the darkness, fade with the light.

Live in the shadows, decaying twilight,
Blood will be shed as heaven will fall
Desolate howls from a dark, faint night
Echo the darkness, fade with the light.
Will you quiver at the howling of the night?

This is my entry for =Mattiello’s The Villanelle Contest. This is my first time writing a Villanelle, so I hope this passes as a correct piece. It’s been a while since I last wrote something. Good thing Mattiello is holding a contest so I decided to give it a try. I’m not proud of this but at least I got to write again.
